August 2006 Noatak River Float Trip
This slideshow features many of the highlights from the Herriott brother's 19 day float trip on the Noatak River in Northwest Alaska. Much of the 435 river miles of the Noatak lie in Gates of the Arctic National Park and Noatak National Preserve. The Noatak River basin is the "largest undisturbed watershed in North America." This Wild and Scenic River is also designated as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

After dinner we ferried to the other side of the river while the meat remained hanging for the night. The main reason for leaving the meat on the far side of the river was because the gravel bar lacked a spot to pitch our tent. From the far sand bar we were able to keep an eye on our meat and the gut pile, which were both 200 yards from each other and our site across the way. We were concerned about scavengers, but the windy night would disturb the wind born scent trail and our precious meat was far from the more odorous gut pile.
