August 2006 Noatak River Float Trip
This slideshow features many of the highlights from the Herriott brother's 19 day float trip on the Noatak River in Northwest Alaska. Much of the 435 river miles of the Noatak lie in Gates of the Arctic National Park and Noatak National Preserve. The Noatak River basin is the "largest undisturbed watershed in North America." This Wild and Scenic River is also designated as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

An aerial view during the flight back to Fairbanks. The striking light colored patches are the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, along the mighty sister of the Noatak, the Kobuk. Though this shot leaves much to be desired in terms of quality, it is a fitting end to this slide show. An entirely different suite of sights and experiences awaits floaters of these two rivers, and it would be untrue to say that such a sight passing below does not plant seeds in the minds of those whove known the allure of an Alaskan river . . .
